Freire Shipyard to build four support vessels for the Swedish Royal Navy

The new fleet will be designed to operate in harsh-weather conditions and will incorporate diesel-electric propulsion systems that optimize fuel consumption.

Spanish shipyard Freire Shipyard has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the construction of four new vessels intended for naval support missions. The ships will have a length of 47 meters, reach a top speed of 12 knots, and have an endurance of up to 10 days, with a crew capacity of 16 crewmembers. Each unit will be equipped with two main cranes on the main deck and an auxiliary crane for supplies, allowing for autonomous loading and unloading operations. It will also have a folding ramp for vehicle access from the stern.

New Generation of Vessels with Sustainable Technology
The vessels will feature a diesel-electric propulsion system, consisting of four variable-speed generators connected to two DC buses, which optimizes fuel consumption and reduces emissions, meeting the most stringent environmental standards. They will have two fixed-pitch azimuth thrusters and one manoeuvring propeller, all powered by electric motors. These vessels will be able to navigate in icy conditions and are designed to withstand extreme harsh weather.

With this addition, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration strengthens its response and operational support capabilities, integrating new logistical capabilities that allow it to perform its functions more effectively.
