Two Pacific Tuna Vessels Arrive at Nodosa for Overhaul

The Marín shipyard strengthens its shipbuilding activity with maintenance work on the fishing vessels

Two large tuna vessels from Pacific Ocean fishing grounds recently arrived at Galician shipyard Nodosa’s facilities in Marín for overhaul. The vessels are undergoing an extensive programme of maintenance and modernisation work. They are the Panama-flagged ‘Jane IV’ and the Ecuadorian-flagged ‘San Andrés’. According to the company, the work to be carried out includes scheduled maintenance, system upgrades, technical modifications and the renewal of certifications in accordance with shipbuilding industry quality and safety standards.

Nodosa is thus strengthening its shipbuilding activity with repair and maintenance work on large vessels, alongside its newbuilding operations. Its order book includes two state-of-the-art fishing vessels, each 79 metres in length, for a New Zealand shipowner, as well as an 85-metre vessel for an Argentine company partly owned by Vigo-based Profand. In addition, the shipyard is building two mussel-farming vessels for Galician companies. These are auxiliary vessels for aquaculture operations in the estuary, measuring just over 22 metres in length.

The shipyard’s contracts guarantee a workload for several years and reflect the strong momentum currently being experienced by the shipbuilding industry. Vigo’s shipyards have secured activity until at least 2028, with more than twenty vessel construction orders currently in force.
